The LIFE+ Podkowiec Towers project was preceded by the LIFE Podkowiec+ project. Upon its completion, a report aimed at non-specialists (the so-called ‘Layman’s Report’) was produced. It discusses experiences from the period during which the Polish populations of the lesser horseshoe bat and the Geoffroy’s bat were rescued and stabilised, and the sites of the greater mouse-eared bat in the southern part of the country were secured. The current programme responds to constantly emerging situations threatening the survival of individual colonies, partly by continuing to manage the sites, and in drastic situations by constructing replacement shelters located in suitable forest habitats. The text of the Layman’s Report for the LIFE Podkowiec+ project is available in Polish and English. The new project has also expanded its scope, involving organisations from three further countries where the actions were deemed most urgent. You will be able to read about these activities in the public report from the LIFE Podkowiec Towers project, which will appear here in a few months’ time.
